Hikaru Gosunkugi

Hikaru Gosunkugi is a 15 year old Freshman at Furinkan High School. He is one of the least popular students there, and has no friends. Tatewaki Kuno pays Gosunkugi for the photos he takes in hopes of discovering Ranma's weak spot.

Like many of the other male characters in the series, Gosunkugi is in love with Akane even though he is too shy to tell her. He also realizes that he would never stand a chance against her other suitors like Ryoga and Kuno.

Gosunkugi often tries to sneakily get the upperhand on his rivals, though often this backfires. Most of his classmates are completely unaware of him, and certainly unaware of his ambitions to move them out of the way so he might have a moment with Akane.

Unfortunately, in the anime, most of Gosunkugi's parts were given to Sasuke Sagurature.

The Meaning Behind the Name - 五寸釘光

Hikaru (光) has an interesting name. Hikaru is fairly common and means "flashing brilliance." Gosunkugi (五寸釘) is the real pun. When broken apart it means "five inch nail". Of course Gosunkugi loves carrying around his hammer and nails to pound his straw voodoo dolls into trees.

Voices: Issei Futamata Issei Futamata plays the wimpy Gosunkugi, but he is best known as Yusaku Godai in Maison Ikkoku. His other characters include Chibi in Urusei Yatsura, Ishida in One-Pound Gospel and Mikiyasu Shinshi in Patlabor.

Akira Ishida Akira Ishida takes on the role of Gosunkugi in the 2024 adaptation of Ranma 1/2. Ishida is a veteran of the original series, having played mostly background characters and anime only characters such as Yutaro in the original series. He is best known as Xellos from Slayers and provides the voice of Nobunaga in Inuyasha. His other roles include Ash in Voogie's Angels, Kazuma Ikeda in His and Her Circumstances, and Fish Eye in Sailor Moon Super S. He also later went on to play the black cat Kurosu in Rumiko Takahashi's next series Kyokai no RINNE.

Michael Benyaer Gosunkugi's English actor is Michael Benyaer whos only other large anime role is as Captain M'Quve in Mobile Suit Gundam. He's had prolific work doing voices in video games including Kessen, Uncharted 2 & 3, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
